About the position

The City of Henderson announces an examination to create an eligibility list for the classification of Park Code Compliance Officer in the Department of Community Development and Services. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to six (6) months or up to one (1) year, depending on employment status. Serves as an integral role in the Office of Public Response (OPR), a Division of the Community Development and Services Department, by performing daily patrols of City parks, trails, recreation centers, and plazas to educate and enforce Henderson Municipal Codes as they relate to park rules. Under general supervision, identifies and prohibits the violation of applicable City ordinances; promotes public safety and provides customer service, information, and interpretive services to park users and the public; performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility; performs related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily patrols of City parks, trails, recreation centers, and plazas.
  • Educate and enforce Henderson Municipal Codes related to park rules.
  • Identify and prohibit violations of applicable City ordinances.
  • Promote public safety and provide customer service to park users.
  • Perform a variety of technical tasks related to assigned responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or the equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of experience in parks or recreation operations and/or code or law enforcement, including issuing citations, writing reports, and documenting incidents.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada or 'border state' driver's license.
  • Must pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check and a wants/warrants check.
  • May be required to complete Security Awareness and NCIC/NCJIS certification within six months of hire/transfer.
  • Must possess or obtain and maintain Criminal Justice Information Systems Certification within seven (7) days of appointment.
  • Must possess CPR Certification within six (6) months of appointment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification as a Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector with the International Code Council and/or American Association of Code Enforcement.

  • Full-time non-probationary employees will be placed on an eligibility list for up to six (6) months.
  • Probationary full-time, part-time, temporary employees, and external candidates will be placed on separate lists for up to one (1) year.
