About the position

The Park Ranger position at the City of College Station involves acting as an ambassador for the city's parks and facilities. The role focuses on ensuring a safe and pleasant environment for park patrons through general enforcement, protection, and information dissemination regarding park amenities, rules, and regulations. The Park Ranger will patrol assigned areas, enforce laws, maintain records, and respond to public inquiries and emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol and monitor assigned parks and activity areas to ensure safe and proper use of park facilities.
  • Implement, monitor, and enforce relevant laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide resources and information to patrons regarding park rules and city ordinances.
  • Conduct investigations, educate rule violators, and issue citations as necessary.
  • Manage controlled activity levels within assigned parks, including unlocking/securing gates and providing crowd control at events.
  • Maintain records, complete incident reports, and issue citations.
  • Respond to and resolve customer concerns and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Monitor and direct parking area traffic for public safety.
  • Perform basic inspections of approved vendors for compliance with health ordinances.
  • Conduct recreational or interpretive programs and tours.
  • Provide first aid and emergency response, and assist first responder agencies when needed.
  • Attend meetings, training events, and conferences related to job duties.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Two years of experience related to the area of assignment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid State of Texas Driver's License.
  • Registered Code Enforcement Officer Certification or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
  • American Red Cross First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Skilled in handling conflict and uncertain situations.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to maintain positive working relationships.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions.
  • Availability to work on-call and respond to emergencies.
