About the position

The Part-Time Associate (Cashier) position at Smart & Final is crucial to the success of our store operations. As a Part-Time Associate, you will be the face of our store, providing excellent customer service and ensuring that our shelves are stocked with fresh food. Your role will involve maintaining a designated store section, which includes ordering, receiving, and stocking merchandise using the proper equipment. You will also be responsible for ensuring that all products are properly priced and that product date codes are checked for proper rotation. This position requires you to stock shelves, end displays, floor stacks, and refrigerated/frozen cases, as well as prepare perishable products for sale and set up advertising/promotional displays. In addition to stocking and maintaining the store, you will operate a cash register, receive payments from customers, and process transactions, including cash and credit refunds when approved by management. You will also verify customer eligibility when selling alcoholic beverages and assist customers with loading their purchases into their vehicles when requested. Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards in all areas of the store and parking lot is also part of your responsibilities. You will perform basic bookkeeping duties, including recording lost or damaged goods and store supplies using appropriate tools. This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy interacting with the public and are passionate about providing excellent service. You will need to be able to read and write in English, comprehend simple instructions, and effectively present information to customers and co-workers. The ability to lift and move products of varying weights is also essential for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a store section as assigned and may order, receive and stock merchandise using proper equipment.
  • Assure proper pricing on merchandise and check product date codes to validate proper rotation.
  • Stock shelves, end displays, floor stacks, displays, and refrigerated/frozen cases.
  • Prepare perishable products for sale and set up advertising/promotional displays.
  • Review invoices/bills for accuracy and clean and maintain sanitation standards in all areas of the store and parking lot as directed by management.
  • Operate a cash register, receive payment from customers, and process transactions including cash and credit refunds when approved by management.
  • Verify customer eligibility when selling alcoholic beverages and assist customers with loading their purchases into their vehicles when requested.
  • Perform basic bookkeeping duties and record lost/damaged goods and store supplies using appropriate tools.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and write English and interact with the general public and co-workers.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, product labels, product pricing codes, shelf tags, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 45 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
