The Day Center Advocate position at YWCA Northeast Kansas is a part-time role focused on providing essential support to clients who are victims of human trafficking, domestic violence, sexual assault, and abuse. This position is classified as non-exempt and requires a commitment of 20 hours per week, with a pay rate starting at $17 per hour. The work schedule is flexible and will be mutually determined, primarily during day shifts from Monday to Friday. The Day Center Advocate will report directly to the CSE Assistant Program Director and is responsible for maintaining a safe and confidential environment for clients at the YWCA Center for Safety and Empowerment's Day Center. In this role, the advocate will conduct initial intakes for clients, orient them to the day center, and complete necessary paperwork. Monitoring clients and addressing any concerns according to the day center policy manual is crucial. The advocate will also ensure the safety of both clients and staff by taking appropriate emergency measures when necessary. Maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in the day center is part of the job, which includes tasks such as managing donations, stocking the kitchen, and preparing bedrooms for clients. Documentation of relevant information in logs and providing verbal briefings to oncoming volunteers and staff are also key responsibilities. The advocate will assist in volunteer and community training regarding human trafficking and is expected to attend monthly staff meetings. The Day Center Advocate plays a vital role in promoting and supporting the mission and vision of the YWCA, which focuses on eliminating racism and empowering women. The position requires the ability to work well with a diverse client population, mediate conflicts, and relate effectively to victims in crisis. The advocate must be punctual, reliable, and understand the importance of maintaining good boundaries with clients and staff. Physical demands include the ability to drive a personal vehicle, lift up to 50 pounds, and climb stairs multiple times daily.
