About the position

The Illustration Program at Parsons School of Art, Media & Technology at The New School University is seeking applications from field practitioners, industry professionals, and academics who are interested in teaching in the Illustration program as Part-Time Faculty members. At the heart of the Parsons Illustration curriculum is the development of innovative visual storytelling skills. We nurture each student's unique artistic vision, authorial voice, creative problem-solving abilities, and curiosity. The program seeks to explore and expand the boundaries of the illustration field as it's traditionally been understood. Students work in both digital and analog media creating picture books, graphic novels, editorial illustration, animations, films, artwork for gallery settings, artwork for performance settings, installations, toys, apparel, and more. A central focus of the Illustration program is the relationship between words and images. We are looking for educators and practitioners who can teach in traditional and/or new media, in 2, 3, and 4 dimensions, especially applicants who can teach in multiple areas.

Responsibilities

  • Developing course content and syllabi in consultation with Program Leadership
  • Attending all classes assigned to teach as scheduled by the University
  • Reporting any emergency faculty absences to the Associate Director of Part-Time Faculty Affairs and Program Leadership
  • Recording student attendance in a timely manner within two days of each class session
  • Adhering to all University policies (i.e., FERPA, exclusive use of New School email, etc.) as outlined in the ACT-UAW Local 7902 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • 3-5 years of University-level teaching or equivalent industry experience
  • U.S. Work Authorization (i.e., U.S. Passport or EAD card)
  • Ability to adhere to University COVID-19 Policy and requirements
  • Evidence of a commitment to educational equity
  • Evidence of demonstrated interest in mentoring and supporting students from diverse backgrounds, and developing and nurturing individual student abilities
  • Experience with software / technology as appropriate to the candidate's teaching practice.
