About the position

The Part-Time Retail Associate is a vital member of our Store Operations Team, responsible for delivering exceptional customer service and ensuring a pleasant shopping experience for our customers. Located at 3141 Main Street, Chula Vista, California, this role involves maintaining assigned store sections, stocking merchandise, and keeping the store environment clean and welcoming. The starting pay for this position is $16.25 per hour, and it is a part-time role that requires flexibility and a commitment to community service. As a Part-Time Retail Associate, you will be tasked with various responsibilities that include maintaining proper pricing on merchandise, checking product date codes for freshness, and stocking shelves, end displays, and refrigerated cases. You will also prepare perishable products for sale, set up promotional displays, and ensure cleanliness in all areas of the store, including the parking lot. Customer interaction is a key component of this role, as you will provide friendly and knowledgeable assistance, load customer purchases, and perform basic bookkeeping duties related to lost or damaged goods. Candidates for this position should possess strong communication skills, the ability to read and write in English, and the capability to lift and move various weights as required. A Retail Management Certificate and basic PC/Outlook skills are considered a plus, but not mandatory. This role is perfect for individuals who are passionate about food, community service, and providing excellent customer experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a store section as assigned and stock merchandise using proper equipment (excluding power/heavy equipment).
  • Assure proper pricing on merchandise and check product date codes to validate proper rotation.
  • Stock shelves, end displays, floor stacks, displays, and refrigerated/frozen cases.
  • Prepare perishable products for sale as needed.
  • Set up advertising/promotional displays.
  • Clean and maintain sanitation standards in all interior and exterior areas of the store and parking lot as directed by store management.
  • Offer friendly, knowledgeable, efficient, and courteous assistance to customers by providing them with current store and product information.
  • Load customer purchases by assisting customers to their vehicles when requested.
  • Perform basic bookkeeping duties, including recording lost/damaged goods and store supplies using appropriate tools.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and write English and interact with the general public and co-workers.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, product labels, product pricing codes, shelf tags, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 45 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
