About The Position

The Pathologists Assistant position at PeaceHealth is a per diem role focused on surgical pathology and histopathology. The role involves examining human surgical specimens, assisting in tissue preparation, and ensuring proper documentation and management of specimens. The assistant will also participate in quality assurance activities and may engage in compliance duties related to the College of American Pathologists.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences or equivalent.
• Accredited Program in Pathology Assistant or ASCP BOR Certification required.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in a related field.
• Credentials required within 1-1/2 years from American Association of Pathologists Assistants or ASCP BOR.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with anatomic pathology computer systems.
• Familiarity with CAP compliance duties.

Responsibilities

• Efficiently perform human surgical specimen examination.
• Assist in tissue preparation for frozen section examinations.
• Perform appropriate medical photography of gross specimens.
• Ensure appropriate procedure documentation and document management.
• Perform specimen accessioning utilizing anatomic pathology computer system as necessary.
• Maintain gross room including work environment, equipment, and supplies.
• Assist, initiate, and/or implement specialized procedures and/or research projects as assigned by the Director.
• Perform lead role in QA activities for Anatomic Pathology.
• Participate as lab liaison on relevant teams such as tumor board and breast conference.
• Perform CAP compliance duties including periodic record reviews and equipment validation.
