About the position

The Patient Access Representative II at UTHealth is responsible for ensuring compliance with medical necessity, verifying patient eligibility, and managing payment postings. This role involves direct interaction with patients and healthcare providers to gather necessary information and facilitate smooth patient access to services.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain demographic, insurance, and financial information from patients or guarantors and enter it accurately into the computer system.
  • Schedule patient appointments and ensure timely entry of required information.
  • Explain required forms to patients or guarantors and obtain necessary signatures.
  • Ensure medical necessity compliance by gathering necessary data and communicating with patients or guarantors.
  • Protect the financial integrity of the facility by collecting patient liabilities and establishing payment arrangements.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits, ensuring all notifications and authorizations are completed on time.
  • Post payments in the computer system and generate appropriate patient receipts.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, care management, and other departments, as well as patients and their families.
  • Adhere to university policies and standards, managing time and resources effectively.
  • Promote professional growth by meeting education requirements and supporting departmental goals.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience in a hospital or medical business office setting.
  • Ability to multi-task and proficient typing/keyboarding skills.
