About the position

The Patient Account Representative II - Billing is a remote role within the Revenue Cycle team, responsible for managing billing processes for two ScionHealth facilities. This position focuses on ensuring accurate and timely billing of hospital and physician claims, utilizing strong customer service skills to interact with patients and insurance carriers. The representative will also handle billing errors and maintain compliance with departmental policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for billing UB and/or HCFA claims using fundamental knowledge of regulatory billing guidelines and insurance company protocols.
  • Work on billing edits and billing rejections designated by system work queues.
  • Maintain required levels of productivity and quality while managing tasks to ensure timeliness of billing and subsequent collections.
  • Utilize resources such as payor websites and provider service lines to accomplish billing-related tasks.
  • Import claims and work claims daily to ensure timely billing.
  • Coordinate with other departments to resolve issues preventing timely and accurate claim exports.
  • Participate in A/R clean-up projects or other identified projects.
  • Take ownership of assignments and perform other duties as assigned or requested.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers and share knowledge.
  • Cooperate and interact with supervisors, peers, and other departments to demonstrate commitment to service.
  • Provide training to new or existing staff as directed by leadership.
  • Identify root causes of billing edits and rejections to improve efficiencies.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent (required)
  • Previous hospital and/or physician billing experience (required)
  • Basic knowledge of hospital and/or physician billing regulations (required)
  • Computer skills with basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook (required)
  • General accounting and bookkeeping skills (required)
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing (required)
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills (required)
  • Ability to work independently (required)
  • Knowledge of medical billing and medical terminology (preferred)
  • Experience with systems such as Epic or SSI (preferred)

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Epic or SSI systems
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
