About the position

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) role at Hackensack Meridian Health is focused on providing high-quality patient care in a pre-admission testing environment. The position emphasizes collaboration with healthcare teams to ensure effective patient outcomes and a seamless transition of care from admission to discharge. The PCT is expected to take initiative, communicate effectively with patients and colleagues, and participate in performance improvement activities.

Responsibilities

• Providing patient care based on physical, psychosocial, education, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the age of the guests/patients served.
• Ensuring effective and safe patient outcomes through practice, judgment, and critical actions.
• Communicating ongoing patient status and care with nursing colleagues and other healthcare team members.
• Taking self-directed initiative to improve job performance and create new opportunities.
• Participating in interdisciplinary collaboration of the patient's plan of care from admission to discharge.
• Engaging in Unit/Department Performance Improvement (PI) activities.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
• Completion of Meridian Nursing Assistant Program or Current Certified Nursing Assistant certification or Current Nursing Student with completed fundamentals in nursing clinical rotation.
• Equivalent bedside nursing experience such as home health aides, military hospital corpsman, medic, or Emergency Medical Technician.
• Experience or certification in phlebotomy and checking EKG, vital signs, and blood sugar preferred.
• BLS/CPR certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required.
• At least one (1) year of PCT or CNA experience in a hospital setting strongly preferred.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in vital signs monitoring.
• Certification as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician.
