About the position

The Patient Financial Services Coordinator I is responsible for performing various patient financial service functions at an introductory level. This role includes tasks such as scanning, filing, reviewing correspondence, and managing billing inquiries to ensure the financial success of the University of Mississippi Medical Center. The position requires attention to detail and adherence to policies and guidelines related to revenue cycle functions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform core revenue cycle functions such as billing, claims filing, data entry, charge entry, insurance follow-up, denial management, payment posting, customer service, and billing records review.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA guidelines and regulations.
  • Prepare and submit clean claims to insurance companies accurately and timely, either electronically or by paper.
  • Understand payer guidelines related to claim submission and utilize payer websites and resources effectively.
  • Work on assigned reports, work-lists, and patient accounts.
  • Collaborate with management and co-workers positively to contribute to a positive working environment.
  • Perform any other assigned duties as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One or more years of related revenue cycle experience.
  • Basic knowledge of medical claims processing.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, and basic data entry.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of ICD-10/HCPCS/CPT coding.
  • Basic knowledge of third-party insurance and government insurance plans.
