About the position

The Patient Services Specialist 2 plays a crucial role in providing administrative support within a healthcare setting, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care. This position involves various patient-related duties, including check-in and check-out processes, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and managing phone inquiries. The specialist may also assist in training and mentoring junior staff members.

Responsibilities

  • Assists patients and visitors with check-in and check-out processes.
  • Schedules appointments and verifies insurance information.
  • Answers and responds to phone inquiries regarding services and operations.
  • Arranges follow-up visits and referral appointments for patients.
  • Registers patients by collecting and verifying their insurance information.
  • Verifies patient demographics and updates changes in the computer system.
  • Directs patients to appropriate waiting areas within the facility.
  • Accepts payments for services and posts them into the system using appropriate codes.
  • Generates daily payment reports and reconciles cash drawer against these reports.
  • Provides accurate information to patients regarding medical, financial, or procedural inquiries.
  • Discusses financial arrangements with patients as needed.
  • Handles patient complaints and ensures they are addressed appropriately.
  • Aids in medical records duties, including pulling charts and filing records.
  • Retrieves, transports, sorts, and files medical records as required.
  • Copies medical records for patient transfers and referrals as requested.
  • Mentors and trains junior staff members as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 1 year of experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of patient registration procedures and documentation.
  • Understanding of medical insurance claims procedures and documentation.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Out of Network process.
  • Skilled in using personal computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain patient records.
  • Experience in examining unpaid third-party claims and resolving follow-up actions.
