About the position

The primary responsibilities of Patient Services Specialist (PSS) to provide quality customer service by greeting the patient, collecting their information and payments in addition to scheduling appointments and maintaining medical records. Due to the different AON office layouts, the below responsibilities and tasks will be broken up or not based on size and skill in office. Key Performance Areas include creating and maintaining patient charts within the EMR and billing systems for New and Hospital Consult Patients, accurately recording and communicating Hospital Consults to the appropriate physician, and managing physician requests regarding schedule changes and patient appointments. The PSS is responsible for checking in patients, collecting payments, scheduling appointments, and maintaining accurate records. Additional duties include managing the check-in and check-out processes, handling medical records, and ensuring compliance with all relevant policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain patient charts within the EMR and billing systems.
  • Accurately record and communicate Hospital Consults to the appropriate physician.
  • Manage physician requests regarding schedule changes and patient appointments.
  • Check-in patients, collect and document payments, and verify demographic information.
  • Schedule patient appointments including follow-ups, treatments, referrals, and outside testing.
  • Prepare and work reports in accordance with AON and clinic protocols.
  • Handle check-in and check-out processes for patients.
  • Maintain medical records and ensure confidentiality of patient information.
  • Provide support and understanding to patients and their caregivers.
  • Comply with all Federal and State laws and regulations pertaining to patient care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma; Associates degree a plus.
  • Minimally one year healthcare field experience, preferably in a physician office.
  • Patient/Customer focused.
  • Attention to detail with strong ability to multitask.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong communication skills with a wide variety of personalities.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.

Nice-to-haves

  • Second language is an asset but not required.
