About The Position

Provides and manages medical care to children from birth through adolescence. Diagnoses illness and injury. Tracks mental and physical growth and development, consulting with patient or guardian to outline treatment and prevention plans. Maintains records and charts according to laws and regulations. In addition, the physician is part of a Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) team and is expected to be familiar with the philosophy, goals and objectives of PCMH.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree from an accredited school of medicine or osteopathy required.
  • Completion of postgraduate residency training in pediatric medicine.
  • 3-5 years' experience preferred but not required.
  • Unrestricted licensure to practice medicine in the state of Texas.
  • BLS, NRP and PALS Certified.
  • Federal DEA Certification.
  • Board certified or Board Eligible in Pediatric Medicine.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records systems, EPIC preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet software and Microsoft Word Processing software.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews patient file/record, including allergies, problems, medications, well-child visits, and immunization status.
  • Elicits and records information about patient's medical, developmental, social, and family history.
  • Examines patient to determine general physical condition or presence of disease or injury.
  • Orders or executes various tests, analyses, and diagnostic images to provide information on patient's condition.
  • Analyzes reports and findings of tests and examination, and diagnoses condition of patient.
  • Administers or prescribes treatments as needed.
  • Determines and prescribes medication, dosage, and schedule given the patient's condition and allergies.
  • Prescribes and may administer vaccinations to immunize patient from communicable diseases.
  • Discusses any possible side effects to medication or immunization with parent or patient.
  • Refers patients to medical specialist for consultant services when necessary for patient's well-being and further medical evaluation and/or interpretation.
  • Follows up with patient or parent regarding progress in high risk or emergency cases.
  • Establishes preventive health practices.
  • Documents the patient's visit including medical history, physical exam, diagnoses, and plan of action.
  • Conducts physical examinations to provide information needed for admission to school.
  • Participates in CPI program. Maintains compliance, is knowledgeable, and utilizes the guidelines of all state and federal laws and regulations as they pertain to the position.
