About the position

PennDOT is seeking Transportation Equipment Operator Trainees in Wayne County! As a Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee, you will build the skills and knowledge you need to become a proficient Transportation Equipment Operator with on-the-job training. This is a trainee position that is responsible for operating highway construction and maintenance equipment and performing a variety of manual laboring duties on a highway or bridge maintenance crew. You will be trained for licensing and certification to operate heavy construction equipment which includes at least the following: Heavy Truck/Tandem Axle (HT/TA) and loader (LD) (bucket capacity of 4.5 cubic yards or less) on highway or bridge maintenance crews. You will learn to perform, and document required pre-and post-operation checks and make necessary field adjustments to permit safe operation and minimize wear. You will also operate a variety of hand and foot controls, utilizes seat belts and installs and removes tire chains on dual wheels.

Responsibilities

  • Operate highway construction and maintenance equipment.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver Learner's Permit on the first day of work.
  • Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of work.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions.
