About the position

The Operations Manager for Penn State Extension is responsible for overseeing the operational and business functions of county extension offices within a designated geographic area. This role involves financial management, personnel leadership, and ensuring effective daily operations while fostering a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Operations Manager will work collaboratively with other Extension Area Business Operations Managers and will have a flexible work arrangement that includes both remote and on-campus work.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the overall financial aspects of the assigned County Extension offices, ensuring integrity and excellent stewardship.
  • Strategize and develop budgets, preparing financial analysis, forecasts, and reports.
  • Authorize and administer financial transactions, ensuring compliance with funding sources and timely processing of income and expenses.
  • Champion organizational change and adherence to policies, procedures, and government regulations.
  • Supervise and manage the work activities of county-based Administrative and Financial Support Staff.
  • Recruit, hire, orient, mentor, develop, and evaluate administrative staff.
  • Ensure excellent customer service in County offices for internal and external clientele.
  • Resolve complex issues and engage appropriate individuals in discussions and resolution.
  • Manage daily operations and maintenance of Extension offices and auxiliary facilities.
  • Oversee the purchase and maintenance of equipment, fixed assets, and supplies.
  • Consult with other departments regarding technology planning and purchasing of equipment and software.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective communication and collaboration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • 8 or more years of relevant experience, including 3+ years of supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong skills in financial/budgetary management, personnel management, and operations management.
  • Experience in problem, change, project, and process management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in educational program delivery or consulting.
  • Knowledge of agricultural sciences or community engagement.
