About the position

The Director of Operations & Manufacturing at Alvarez & Marsal will lead complex client engagements within the Private Equity Performance Improvement (PEPI) practice. This role focuses on enhancing operational efficiency and value creation for upper middle market and large cap private equity firms. The Director will leverage their expertise in manufacturing and distribution to analyze operations, identify improvement opportunities, and implement strategic changes that drive performance and profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver large, complex client engagements in manufacturing and distribution operations.
  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of a target's manufacturing and distribution operations, including organization design and production capacity.
  • Evaluate the maintainability and operability of production facilities.
  • Review current and historical data to understand efficiency and capacity, including equipment conditions and maintenance logs.
  • Provide shop floor insights by engaging with employees and customers and reviewing available data.
  • Identify potential cost improvement opportunities through lean improvements, outsourcing, or consolidation of facilities.
  • Develop transformation plans to drive proposed changes and identify key risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Implement and oversee the quality of deliverables and manage day-to-day relationships to ensure exceptional performance.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of combined professional industry and consulting experience, with a minimum of 4 years in manufacturing and/or distribution functions.
  • Previous advisory experience from a top-tier strategy firm, leading specialist, niche advisory firm, or Big-4 consultancy preferred.
  • Experience working for or with private equity sponsors and portfolio companies.
  • Deep functional expertise in supply chain operations, manufacturing operations, and related areas.
  • Demonstrated track record working with C-suite executives and private equity deal partners.
  • Excellent fact-gathering and analytical skills, including business process mapping and quantitative analysis.
  • Specific experience designing and leading change/communications strategies.
  • MBA is a plus.

  • Experience with Manufacturing 4.0/IIoT, Lean, Six Sigma, TOC, and Value Engineering.
