About the position

As a Personal Trainer at the YMCA, you will be responsible for creating tailored program designs for individual and small group clients, ensuring a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement. Your role will involve utilizing your expertise in exercise science to enhance wellness and help clients achieve their fitness goals in alignment with YMCA policies and procedures. You will be expected to arrive on time, prepared to begin and end sessions punctually, and design appropriate workout regimes that align with the client's objectives while adhering to the YMCA mission. In this position, you will answer questions from members to support their health-related goals, maintain a working knowledge of health and wellness, and build authentic relationships with members to foster community connections within the YMCA. Keeping accurate attendance records for classes is essential, as is following YMCA policies and procedures, including emergency protocols. You will also be responsible for scheduling clients, providing flexible options for days and times, and enforcing Fitness Center rules to ensure the safety of all participants. Your duties will include educating participants on proper exercise form, anatomy, contraindications, and modifications, adjusting sessions to accommodate various fitness levels, and ensuring clients maintain hygiene practices in accordance with CDC guidelines. Additionally, you will be required to clean and disinfect equipment following YMCA protocols and maintain your certifications to ensure compliance with industry standards.

Requirements

  • Nationally recognized certification in personal training (e.g., ACE, ACSM, ISCA).
  • First Aid, CPR, AED, and Oxygen Administration certification, maintained annually.
  • Knowledge of anatomy, kinesiology, and strength and conditioning program leadership.
  • Completion of YMCA Praesidium Academy online training within thirty days of hire.
  • Completion of YMCA of Long Island New Employee Orientation within thirty days of hire.
