About the position

The position is responsible for planning, budgeting, directing, and supervising pharmacy activities and personnel, including managing new programs within the department and for the hospital. The pharmacist maintains the pharmacy within established hospital and regulatory agency laws, and Department of Public Health Regulations. Responsibilities include compounding and dispensing medications and other pharmaceuticals, preparing and maintaining all necessary records on prescriptions, patient charges, and inventory, and providing information to hospital staff members on drugs and pharmaceuticals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide education on pharmaceuticals to hospital staff, patients, and private citizens.
  • Review prescriptions issued by licensed practitioners to ensure accuracy and determine formulae and ingredients needed.
  • Perform clinical evaluation of patient medications as needed.
  • Compound medications using standard formulae and processes such as weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients.
  • Direct other pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, interns, externs, and other ancillary personnel in the mixing, packaging, and labeling of pharmaceuticals.
  • Maintain established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of outdated and hazardous waste drugs.
  • Enter appropriate information to maintain medication profiles, pharmacy charges, and inventory.
  • Assess medication packaging to determine identity, purity, and strength.
  • Instruct interns and other medical personnel on pharmacy-related matters.
  • Use horizontal and/or vertical flow hoods and glove boxes for mixing sterile parenteral products.
  • Use weight balance scale to measure powders and graduated cylinders, flasks, etc.
  • Complete Bariatric Sensitivity Training Competency and provide care to bariatric patients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy
  • 2+ years related experience in a retail setting preferred
  • Current Pharmacist License for State of Idaho
  • Controlled Substance Registration - State of Idaho
  • BLS certification
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistics, and algebra
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Ability to get along with others
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
