About the position

The Pharmacy Tech position involves assisting the pharmacist in providing optimal pharmaceutical care to patients. Candidates will be assigned to a specific opening (CSP or Unit Dose) at either St. Marys hospital or Methodist hospital, with potential cross-training between the two locations. Responsibilities include gathering, labeling, and distributing medications accurately, packaging and preparing medications, and managing controlled substances in compliance with regulations. The role requires effective communication and attention to age and ability considerations. Candidates may participate in an OnDemand interview process.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the pharmacist in providing optimal pharmaceutical care to the patient.
  • Gathers, labels and distributes medications accurately and efficiently.
  • Packages, prepares and safely compounds medications including hazardous substances accurately and efficiently.
  • Handles, manages and distributes controlled substances in compliance with regulatory requirements and department policies.
  • Assists with drug diversion surveillance.
  • Maintains accurate medication inventories and billing of medications.
  • Effectively communicates utilizing established systems and processes.
  • Performs responsibilities and duties of the job in a manner that is attentive to age and ability considerations.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Effectively reads, writes, speaks and understands English.
  • Possess strong telephone and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to learn technical tasks and follow written and verbal directions.
  • Able to apply math and calculator skills along with a working knowledge of the metric system.
  • Experience with the use of office software computer applications and keyboarding.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a busy environment and pay attention to detail.
  • Proven organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to effectively work both independently and in a team environment.
  • No history of drug abuse or misuse; or proof of successful completion of a certified drug abuse rehabilitation program is required.
  • Current registration or eligibility for registration with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy.
  • National Pharmacy Technician certification within 12 months of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience as a hospital pharmacy technician preferred.
