About the position

The Staff Photographer/Visuals Editor at Jazz at Lincoln Center is responsible for capturing, curating, and producing high-quality visual content that aligns with the organization's brand integrity and production standards. This role involves photographing concerts, events, and tours, managing freelance photographers, and ensuring the integrity of the photo archive. The position requires a strong aptitude for photography and visual storytelling, along with collaboration across departments to deliver polished images for various marketing and archival purposes.

Responsibilities

  • Capture high-quality, on-brand images of Jazz at Lincoln Center's concerts, performances, and events.
  • Develop shot lists, timelines, and budgets for photography projects.
  • Work with the Creative Department to select the best images for digital and print design assets.
  • Plan and execute photo captures for marketing purposes, including brand images of venues and audiences.
  • Maintain a roster of freelance photographers and establish SOPs for receiving finished files.
  • Negotiate terms and rates with freelance photographers on a per-project basis.
  • Act as the main point of contact for JALC's photography needs.
  • Help maintain the integrity of the JALC photo archive and assist with licensing and usage issues.
  • Apply digital photo editing best practices, including captioning and color correction.
  • Prepare images for various placements and sizes, such as outdoor advertising and digital signage.
  • Collaborate with all departments to supply professional images that adhere to brand guidelines.
  • Manage independent assignments while contributing to team collaborations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in photography, Visual Arts, Media, or a related field or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of five years of proven experience in performance or live event photography and photo editing.
  • Strong image editing skills, including selection, optimization, cropping, and color correction.
  • Excellent portfolio demonstrating experience in live music and/or performing arts photography.
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe CC, including Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign; familiarity with WordPress is a plus.
  • Ability to understand and work within JALC's graphic design standards.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills with excellent attention to detail.

  • Knowledge and appreciation of the arts and jazz is preferred.
