About the position

The Physical Therapist position at WellSpan Medical Group in Hagerstown, MD, is designed for individuals who are passionate about providing quality physical therapy services in an outpatient clinic setting. This role is part-time, requiring 32 hours biweekly, with varied day and evening shifts from Monday to Friday, along with a rotation for weekends and holidays. The Physical Therapist will work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary treatment team to deliver individualized care to patients, ensuring that each treatment plan is tailored to meet the specific needs of the patient based on their diagnostic evaluations. In this role, the Physical Therapist will evaluate patients using a variety of diagnostic and prognostic tests to assess muscle, nerve, joint, and functional abilities. They will be responsible for planning and implementing personalized physical therapy programs that may include exercises, therapeutic modalities, and procedures. The therapist will direct and supervise patients in various exercises, including active, active-assisted, and passive exercises, as well as muscle re-education and functional training, utilizing appropriate equipment as necessary. The position also involves providing instructions for therapeutic procedures that patients can continue independently. The Physical Therapist will coordinate therapy activities with other team members to facilitate the achievement of established goals and may participate in training medical and nursing personnel in physical therapy techniques. Adherence to safe patient handling techniques is essential, as is the supervision of Physical Therapy Assistants (PTAs) and Rehabilitation Aides as required by Pennsylvania practice regulations. The role requires maintaining accurate patient records to support medical necessity and functional abilities, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures, and participating in professional development activities. The Physical Therapist is expected to demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles relevant to the patient population served and to provide direct patient care accordingly. Overall, this position is integral to fostering a culture of patient-centered care and clinical excellence within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates patient using diagnostic and prognostic muscle, nerve, joint and functional ability tests.
  • Plans individualized physical therapy program for each patient including exercises, therapeutic modalities and procedures.
  • Directs and supervises patient in active, active assisted, passive exercises, muscle re-education, and functional training using appropriate equipment as needed.
  • Provides instructions in therapeutic procedures to be continued by the patient.
  • Coordinates physical therapy activities in collaboration with the other members of the interdisciplinary team to facilitate achievement of goals established.
  • Conducts or participates in training medical and nursing personnel in physical therapy techniques and objectives.
  • Utilizes safe patient handling techniques for all patient transfers, lifts and positioning.
  • Provides supervision of PTAs and Rehab Aides as required by PA practice act.
  • Maintains patient record, as required by profession, with accurate documentation to support medical necessity and functional abilities.
  • Ensures the process design of established policies/procedures, objectives, quality management, safety, environment and infection control standards are utilized consistently.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
  • Acts as a role model in Red Rules compliance with a focus on hand hygiene and patient identifiers.
  • Collaborates with other team members to create a culture of patient centeredness and clinical excellence.
  • Utilizes SBAR as a standard method of communication in all aspects of patient care.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree Required
  • Less than 1 year Relevant experience
  • Licensed Physical Therapist Upon Hire Required
  • Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required
  • Must possess a valid driver's license in the current state of residence.
