About the position

The Physical Therapist position at the Fargo VA Health Care System involves providing therapy services to Veterans in an outpatient setting. The incumbent will work within the Rehab and Extended Care Service Line, primarily located at the Minot Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC). The role requires the therapist to make autonomous clinical decisions, interpret examination findings, and develop individualized treatment plans to optimize patient outcomes and functional independence.

Responsibilities

  • Function as a care provider within the health care team, making autonomous clinical decisions in a Direct Access environment.
  • Interpret findings from examinations and evaluations, select appropriate tests and measures, and integrate findings into the physical therapy plan of care.
  • Establish a diagnosis within the scope of physical therapy and identify appropriate rehabilitation interventions, including referrals to other providers as needed.
  • Determine physical therapy prognosis by incorporating examination findings with the patient's preferences to set treatment goals.
  • Exhibit flexibility in problem-solving based on evaluation findings.
  • Establish meaningful therapeutic goals and design treatment plans to meet those goals efficiently.
  • Adapt and modify treatment programs based on patient responses to treatment.
  • Document initial findings, treatment goals, equipment recommendations, follow-up progress, and discharge summaries in the patient's medical record.
  • Measure patients for assistive devices and special equipment, fitting devices as needed and instructing patients/care providers in their use.
  • Develop home programs for patients prior to discharge and instruct family or care providers on how to assist patients in carrying out the program.
  • Manage scheduling of patients to allow for unforeseen incidents or interruptions in planned programs.
  • Recognize adverse reactions to treatment and report significant changes in patients' physical or mental status to appropriate medical authorities.
  • Apply recognized physical therapy treatment procedures correctly and safely, modifying techniques as indicated for individual patients.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy with five years of progressively independent experience, or a Master's degree with two years of experience, or a Doctorate in Physical Therapy.
  • Graduation from a CAPTE accredited college or university.
  • Full, current, and unrestricted license to practice physical therapy in a U.S. state or territory.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2 years of experience with outpatient musculoskeletal programming.
