The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) plays a crucial role in delivering physical therapy services under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist. This position is essential in implementing treatment plans designed by the physical therapist, ensuring that patients receive the highest quality of care. The PTA will work closely with patients to help them relieve pain, restore function, and maintain their maximum performance levels. This role requires a compassionate approach, as the PTA will be directly involved in the rehabilitation process, guiding patients through various therapeutic exercises and treatments. In this position, the PTA will be responsible for conducting both active and passive therapeutic exercises, muscle reeducation, gait training, and functional training. The PTA will also assist patients with transfer activities and prosthetic training, ensuring that they are comfortable and safe during their rehabilitation. Utilizing various physical agents such as heat, cold, water, light, electricity, ultrasound, and massage, the PTA will help facilitate the healing process and improve patient outcomes. Additionally, the PTA will observe and report any changes in the patient's condition to the supervising physical therapist and other healthcare personnel. This includes maintaining accurate clinical records and notes, which are vital for tracking patient progress and ensuring continuity of care. The PTA will also instruct patients on the proper use of mobility aids and assistive devices, empowering them to take an active role in their recovery. Participation in team meetings and in-service education programs is also a key aspect of this role, as it fosters collaboration and ongoing professional development within the organization. The PTA may be required to perform other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the healthcare team.
