About the position

The Physical Therapist Assistant at Altru Health is a vital role responsible for the treatment of patients under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist. This position is based at the Altru Performance Center in Grand Forks, North Dakota, and involves working closely with an interdisciplinary team to develop patient goals and identify barriers to discharge. The assistant is expected to provide patient-centered care, assisting the Physical Therapist in planning and organizing the plan of care for each patient. In this role, the Physical Therapist Assistant will evaluate, develop, and implement intervention plans that are effective and meaningful to the patient's care. This includes remediation, restoration, compensation, adaptation, disability prevention, and health promotion. The assistant will also document goal progress, modify intervention methods as necessary, and collaborate with therapy team members to achieve patient goals. Additionally, the assistant will orient patients and their families to the purpose and procedures of physical therapy evaluations and treatments, providing education and teaching under the supervision of a therapist. They will also supervise therapy assistants and aides, develop discharge plans when patients have reached their goals, and ensure all required patient information is documented appropriately. The role requires meeting third-party payer requirements through proper documentation and performing pain assessments according to standard operating procedures. The position offers paid travel, a fleet vehicle, a gas card, a cell phone, and a laptop for work-related tasks. The Physical Therapist Assistant must hold the necessary certifications and licenses prior to starting the role, including a Physical Therapy Assistant license from the North Dakota Board of Physical Therapy and a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, develop, and implement intervention plans for patients.
  • Provide intervention, evaluation, and documentation of goal progress.
  • Orient patients and families to the purpose and procedures of physical therapy.
  • Provide patient and family education under the supervision of a therapist.
  • Supervise therapy assistants and aides in a collaborative manner.

  • Obtain and document all required patient information accurately.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet departmental needs.

Requirements

  • Physical Therapy Assistant certification from the North Dakota Board of Physical Therapy prior to start date.
  • Physical Therapy Assistant certification from the Minnesota Board of Physical Therapy prior to start date.
  • Current driver's license with an acceptable driving record prior to start date.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association within 90 days of start date.
  • MN Background Study clearance from the Minnesota Department of Human Services prior to start date.
