About the position

The Associate Chief of Staff for Geriatrics & Extended Care at the Central Texas VA Health Care System will serve as the Medical Director for the Geriatrics Program. This role involves supervising a team of healthcare professionals, including Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants, while also providing direct patient care in hospice and palliative care settings. The position focuses on improving the quality of life for Veterans with serious illnesses through symptom relief and emotional support. The Associate Chief of Staff will also coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams and track outcomes to enhance the quality of care provided.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Medical Director for the Geriatrics Program at Central Texas VA Health Care System.
  • Supervise Physicians, Fellows, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants.
  • Provide care as an Attending Physician in the Hospice and Palliative Care Program.
  • Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams and specialists.
  • Educate Veterans, families, and staff on disease processes and care needs.
  • Participate in screening Veterans for Community Living Center (CLC) admissions.
  • Track outcomes and report trends to improve quality of care.
  • Supervise and instruct Medical Students, Residents, and Geriatric and Hospice Fellows.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty program.
  • Board Certification in Geriatrics (preferred).
  • Extensive experience in supervising staff and knowledge of Geriatrics reporting and analytics.
