About the position

The Physician-Deputy Associate Chief of Staff Education/Deputy Designated Education Officer is a Detail position not to exceed 120 days. This position is located in Dallas, TX, and is open to current permanent Department of Veteran Affairs employees. The role involves providing leadership, advice, and subject matter expertise in tasks related to Health Professions Education (HPE) programs, including policy development and implementation activities affecting the VA health care system.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance with leadership, advice, and subject matter expertise in tasks, projects, and assignments related to HPE programs.
  • Advocate for adequate resources for the health professions education function at the VA medical facility.
  • Allocate payments for accreditation and match service fees for programs accredited in the name of VA.
  • Ensure proper accreditation is maintained and verified for all programs.
  • Establish and implement local procedures as directed by OAA national policies.
  • Report affiliation and HPT challenges promptly to facility leadership.
  • Oversee and facilitate the on- and off-boarding of HPTs.
  • Use the results of the OAA-administered Trainee Satisfaction Survey to assess and improve local training quality.
  • Directly recruit HPTs into VA employment.
  • Ensure that affiliation agreements are executed for all programs that send HPTs to VA facilities.
  • Act as a consultant to other VA medical facility staff on educational matters.
  • Advocate for sufficient VA resources for appropriate management of all educational programs.
  • Exercise oversight and administration of all clinical training programs at the VA medical facility.
  • Assist with local procedures for Educational Activity Records (EARs) keeping and disbursement.
  • Work closely with the DEO and OAA to expand programs, collect and report data.
  • Assist with management of special situations and issues pertaining to HPTs.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery.
  • Completed residency training in an accredited core specialty training program.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience providing, developing, and deploying educational and training programs.
  • Experience with processes and documentation associated with appointing nursing and associated health trainees.
  • Experience with the management of associated health trainee funding.
  • Experience with establishing and executing affiliation agreements, MOUs, and program letters of agreement.
