The Pipefitter Journeyman at B&I Contractors, Inc. is a crucial role responsible for the layout, assembly, and installation of HVAC-R piping systems. This includes working with various systems such as chilled water, hot water, cooling, heating, sprinkling, lubricating, and other industrial production and processing systems. The Pipefitter Journeyman will follow blueprints meticulously to ensure that all installations meet the required specifications and standards. This position emphasizes personal ownership of the company's core values: quality, integrity, safety, and teamwork. In this role, the Pipefitter Journeyman will routinely work with HVAC-R equipment and components, including chillers, cooling towers, boilers, pumps, condensing units, heat exchangers, air handlers, fan coils, and Variable Air Volume (VAV) systems. The job requires completing daily tasks under general supervision while adhering to the contract schedule. The Pipefitter Journeyman will utilize a variety of pipes, tubes, and fittings made from both metal and non-metal materials, such as steel, copper, HDPE, and PVC, employing both handheld and power tools. The responsibilities also include cutting and bending pipes using appropriate tools, connecting pipes through various methods, and securing them to structures with anchors, brackets, clamps, hangers, and pipe stands. Quality craftsmanship is paramount, and the Pipefitter Journeyman will inspect installations against specifications and best practices, monitoring pressure gauges to test for leaks and making necessary repairs as required. Safety is a top priority, and the Pipefitter Journeyman will execute all tasks in compliance with safety practices, policies, and regulations, wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) as mandated.
