About the position

We are currently seeking an experienced PLC Electrical Technician for our Gypsum facility in Sweetwater, Texas. This is a highly skilled position requiring a thorough understanding of safe work practices, troubleshooting, and maintaining manufacturing equipment and processes. The PLC Electrical Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the reliability of the equipment, which is essential for meeting and exceeding the facility's goals for quality and production. This involves troubleshooting and diagnosing electrical and/or control problems on all manufacturing equipment in accordance with plant policies and procedures. In this role, you will be responsible for programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining advanced PLC systems including PLC 5, SLC 500, Compact® and Control Logix, as well as Remote IO, Point IO, Messaging, and DeviceNet. You will also be required to read assembly drawings, schematics, and equipment layouts, maintain and repair electronic circuits, and replace control devices as necessary. Understanding and using data to improve productivity is a key aspect of this position, along with adhering to all plant safety and environmental guidelines, policies, and procedures. Collaboration is essential in this role, as you will assist crew members and work in a team environment to help meet or exceed production waste and quality goals. Additionally, you will assist with the design, implementation, and management of improvement projects related to PLC and new automated equipment. Working closely with Supervisors, Maintenance, Engineering, and Operations will be necessary to plan, procure, and document maintenance activities. Strong interpersonal skills are required to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining advanced PLC systems including PLC 5, SLC 500, Compact® and Control Logix, Remote IO, Point IO, Messaging, and DeviceNet.

Requirements

  • At least one year of Electrical Controls experience in a manufacturing, industrial, military, automotive, or agricultural environment.
  • At least one year of PLC programming and troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience reading technical drawings and schematics.
  • Experience troubleshooting and maintaining pneumatic systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting hydraulic equipment, circuits, and components.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Industrial Instrumentation, Electrical, or Automation technology with 3+ years of related work experience.
