About the position

Under general supervision of a Police Sergeant, enforces Federal, State and City laws, rules, regulations, ordinances and codes, by performing various law enforcement tasks that support law enforcement and crime prevention activities. Performs investigative work and other special assignments; performs a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of the Frisco Police Department. Maintains a high visibility in the community to deter and prevent criminal activity, and educates the public in ways to protect themselves from criminal activity and/or prevent accidents and injuries.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts routine patrol of assigned City areas to assist in crime prevention efforts, reports and responds to suspicious circumstances, traffic violations, and hazards to life or property.
  • Responds to calls for service including the investigation of civil and criminal activity, citizen complaints, traffic accidents and domestic violence issues.
  • Mediates and/or negotiates conflicts and disagreements within the community.
  • Arrests (forcibly if necessary), charges, and books violators of laws or individuals with outstanding warrants for their arrest.
  • Presents testimony and evidence in municipal and county courts on traffic, civil, or criminal cases.
  • Assists with Police Department and City sponsored events including traffic and crowd control.
  • Advocates public awareness for crime prevention, neighborhood watch, and other citizen programs.
  • Completes reports, citations, documentation, and case files in a timely manner.
  • Gathers information in criminal investigations by interviewing & obtaining statements of victims, witnesses, suspects and confidential informers.
  • Plans, implements and completes criminal investigations and law violations using physical evidence, statements, and further evidence gathered within the department and effective law enforcement techniques.
  • Analyzes criminal, emergency and law violation situations to determine best method or procedure.
  • Transports prisoners to county jails.
  • Prepares written reports as required by specific area of assignment.
  • Informs crime victims of prosecution procedures, discusses investigation procedures.
  • Checks condition and status of assigned equipment; secures all equipment before leaving it unattended.
  • May represent the Frisco Police Department to the public. Conducts presentations for the general public, conducts demonstrations at police sponsored events, answers questions and written inquiries regarding the Department, law enforcement, etc.
  • Provides information and services to the public, news media and other interested parties according to the Departmental policies and procedures as well as the interests of those concerned.
  • Responds to inquiries from the news media through news releases, written responses and printed material through publications.
  • Stays current regarding laws, technical developments, legal procedures, and relevant court rulings.
  • Processes potential applicants for departmental positions available.
  • Conducts background investigations, preliminary and final interviews and follows the applicant through the on-boarding process to include scheduling of psychological, agility, physical exams, etc.
  • Makes recommendations regarding continuation or termination regarding the applicants during the background process or interview process.
  • Maintains communications with applicants and prospective candidates.
  • May assist in internal departmental investigations.
  • Promotes activities and special events and in the community that relate to crime prevention and positive department-community relations.
  • Promotes crime prevention: organizes neighborhood watch groups, Citizen Police Academy, etc.
  • Maintains close contact with Frisco ISD officials and administrators to provide assistance to public schools in dealing with major and minor law enforcement problems dealing with juveniles.
  • Maintains constant vigilance for criminal activities, suspicious circumstances, traffic violations and hazards to life or property. Takes appropriate action as required.
  • Promotes activities and special events and in the community that relate to crime prevention among juveniles.
  • Promotes juvenile crime prevention programs and anti-drug awareness: assists in planning and implementation of monthly Juvenile Impact Program.
  • Conducts educational presentation regarding juvenile crime prevention and drug use to juveniles, parents and school administrators.
  • Plans and implements training programs for the Frisco Police Department.
  • Prepares training schedules and curriculum for Departmental training and schedules officers for training.
  • Oversees the establishment and maintenance of training records and reports for departmental staff.
  • Evaluates quality and effectiveness of current and potential training.
  • Contacts potential speakers, instructors, and speakers to arrange participation in training activities, departmental events, visits, demonstrations, etc.
  • Provides on-the-job training for new officers.
  • Provides training for Officers and other Police Department staff on suspect and victim interaction.
  • Travels to patrol assigned areas, respond to calls for service, and to attend meetings, conferences and frequent training.
  • Operates police vehicle in safe and courteous manner.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by superior officer and as required by law.
  • Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • Applicants must be a minimum of 20 years of age to apply and must be 21 years of age upon graduating from the Police Academy.
  • Applicants with military experience require discharge be under honorable conditions.
  • No felony or Class A misdemeanor convictions; no Class B misdemeanor convictions within the past 10 years.
  • Non-certified officers must be able to pass the police academy and state licensing test(s).
  • Must meet and maintain all regulatory requirements for Texas Police Officer License.
  • Must obtain and maintain all required departmental and TCLEOSE certifications.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, polygraph test, psychological test, physical assessment, criminal background check and post-offer physical exam.
  • Must possess State of Texas Drivers License at the time of employment.
