About the position

The Porter at Chambersburg Hospital is responsible for performing a variety of environmental services tasks to maintain cleanliness and sanitation within the hospital. This full-time position requires working evening shifts, including rotating weekends and holidays, and involves tasks related to both housekeeping and food and nutrition services. The role emphasizes service excellence, integrity, and compassion in interactions with patients and staff, while adhering to safety and infection control guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Hangs cubicle curtains, drapes, and inspects for tears, holes, and signs of wear.
• Completes Housekeeping Services Work Order at the end of the shift to reflect completion of tasks and items needing attention.
• Maintains respect for rights and privacy of patients.
• Performs all duties in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
• Assists in other positions and responds positively to scheduling changes during increased patient activity or short staffing.
• Coordinates efforts without interference to patient care.
• Utilizes supplies and equipment appropriately, ensuring correct mixing of solutions and intended use of products.
• Reviews daily assignments and prepares appropriate cleaning solutions according to procedures.
• Follows established cleaning/disinfecting procedures in sensitive areas such as O.R. and Isolation.
• Maintains all equipment in safe and working condition.
• Follows personal protective equipment guidelines to maintain infection control.
• Moves and cleans furniture as needed.
• Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floors.
• Cleans rugs, carpets, and upholstered furniture.
• Empties and cleans wastebaskets and transports trash to disposal areas.
• Sets up tables and chairs in lecture centers or conference rooms.
• Wet mops, cleans, waxes, and buffs corridors.
• Washes lights, walls, windows, and air vents using appropriate cleaning solutions.
• Moves furniture and equipment in lecture centers as directed.
• Loads recycled materials onto trucks as directed.
• Completes discharge bed cleaning to maintain clean and ready beds.

Requirements

• High school graduate or G.E.D. preferred.
• Experience applying customer service behaviors and communication skills required.
• Experience in a healthcare setting or cleaning industry preferred.
