About the position

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) is seeking a Portfolio Facilitator to play a pivotal role in supporting the Grid Transition Team and ensuring the successful completion of goals for the Energy Security team. As New York's power grid undergoes significant changes to meet the state's clean energy objectives, the Portfolio Facilitator will be responsible for liaising across various departments within the organization. This position will involve developing and implementing strategies that align with NYISO's Strategic Plan, particularly focusing on the transition to a carbon-free grid. The successful candidate will assist the Manager of Energy Security in tracking and coordinating Energy Security strategies, developing metrics to identify key drivers affecting the reliability of the New York Grid, and creating dashboards to visualize generator participation in regulatory programs. In this role, the Portfolio Facilitator will also be tasked with project tracking and coordination of interconnection queues, ensuring that project statuses and their impacts on grid reliability are well communicated. The position requires the ability to prepare and analyze data queries, reports, and presentations to support special studies and regulatory filings. The Portfolio Facilitator will facilitate information exchange across various departments, including Planning, Operations, and Market, and will be responsible for migrating dashboards to online platforms like Tableau. Additionally, the role involves mentoring fellow team members and representing NYISO on industry committees related to Energy Security. Responsibilities

  • Assist the Manager, Energy Security to develop, communicate, and implement tracking and coordination of Energy Security strategies that align with NYISO's Strategic Plan.
  • Develop metrics to identify the key drivers affecting the Reliability of the New York Grid during the transition to the carbon free grid.
  • Develop dashboards to visualize the participation of different generators in various Regulatory programs.
  • Develop a timeline, create schedules, and oversee progress to ensure goals are met on time.
  • Assist with risk identification and management; measure, report and escalate to management as needed.
  • Prepare and analyze data queries, reports, charts, and slide presentations to support special studies, investigations, board meetings, and regulatory filings and proceedings.
  • Support NYISO in transitioning to a carbon free grid by identifying key challenges, opportunities and driving enhancements.
  • Facilitate the exchange of information from various sources between multiple areas including but not limited to environmental policies, gas-electric, control room operations to support the dissemination of knowledge across the organization.
  • Migrate dashboards to an online platform such as Tableau to facilitate information exchange across Planning, Operations, and Market departments.
  • Assist in developing procedures to reduce administrative effort in managing and visualizing information that impact the operations of the grid.
  • Project tracking and coordination of interconnection queues to facilitate awareness of project status and impacts on grid reliability/studies.
  • Support the development of Board memo to communicate risks and potential challenges.
  • Identify organizational capabilities to track progress on initiatives across Planning and Operations: Bucket what is provided, how it is provided, what questions are being answered (catalogue existing initiatives and what they provide).
  • Liaison with the business and engage in initiatives in Planning, Operations, Markets and IT.
  • Represent NYISO on industry committees, task forces, or stakeholder groups involving issues related to Energy Security.
  • Mentor and transfer knowledge to fellow Energy Security team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (BS) in electrical or Industrial engineering required; Master's degree (MS) preferred.
  • Five years of experience in an electric transmission, generation, utility, ISO or RTO environment.
  • Programming skills with knowledge of Python, MATLAB, Tableau, etc.
  • Experience in project planning, strong leadership and aptitude for understanding complex business processes.
  • Strong organizational skills: superior communication and interpersonal skills is desired.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and a working knowledge of SQL or statistical programming language.
  • Project Management Professional® (PMP) certification as defined by the Project Management Institute (PMI) is desirable.

Nice-to-haves

  • Course studies in power system operation and planning, statistical analysis and optimization techniques particularly using linear programming-based computer models are highly desirable.
