About the position

The Portfolio Manager - Alternative Investments at Sentry is responsible for managing assigned investment portfolios with a primary focus on alternative investments such as venture capital, private equity, real estate, and hedge funds. This hybrid role requires sourcing, screening, and conducting due diligence on investment opportunities, contributing to the selection of investment managers, and monitoring the performance of alternative investment portfolios. The position involves regular interaction with investment managers and requires a strong understanding of macroeconomic factors that may impact investment decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Source, screen, and conduct diligence of investment opportunities in accordance with existing strategy and underwriting standards.
  • Contribute to the selection of investment managers and opportunities.
  • Develop sourcing, screening, and diligence processes and underwriting standards.
  • Monitor Sentry's alternative investment portfolios and prepare routine and ad hoc reports and analysis.
  • Meet regularly with investment managers and key industry constituents.
  • Integrate and evaluate alternative data to meet investment objectives.
  • Conduct analysis and bespoke projects related to sourcing and selection of investments.
  • Create pacing/commitment plans and diligence schedules consistent with annual commitment amounts.
  • Monitor and research macroeconomic and demographic situations impacting the portfolio.
  • Engage in portfolio and macroeconomics discussions and attend industry conferences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience; MBA preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of related work experience.
  • Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst certification preferred.
  • Chartered Financial Analyst certification preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of alternative investment strategies.
  • Background in macroeconomics, financial analysis, accounting, and portfolio management theory.
  • Strong analytical, research, and judgment skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and work under time constraints.
  • Excellent human relations and communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with venture capital and private equity investments.
  • Familiarity with hedge funds and commodities.
