About the position

The Portfolio Manager I at Cadence Bank is primarily responsible for underwriting, structuring, documenting, and monitoring an assigned portfolio of commercial loans. This role operates under the supervision of the Commercial Loan Division Manager and collaborates closely with various departments including credit, appraisal, loan operations, credit administration, and lending administration. The Portfolio Manager acts as an extension of the relationship team, sharing the responsibility for developing comprehensive solutions for credit, deposit, and non-credit products and services. In this position, the Portfolio Manager works alongside the Commercial Lender to attract and expand commercial banking relationships. This may involve participating in joint business development calls or making independent customer contacts as necessary. The role includes loan origination and renewal functions, which require gathering financial information and collaborating with the Credit Department and Analysts to prepare financial analyses, loan applications, and officer credit memos. Additionally, the Portfolio Manager will assist in conducting annual relationship reviews and financial analyses, providing support on loan structure, covenants, and pricing while ensuring compliance with commercial loan policies and regulatory requirements. The Portfolio Manager also participates in loan presentations for approval, assists in drafting client presentations, proposals, term sheets, and commitment letters, and ensures that loan documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with bank policies and regulations. Coordination of closings with outside legal counsel, title companies, and other vendors is also part of the role. The Portfolio Manager is responsible for monitoring loan status, including future maturities, past dues, exceptions, and compliance with loan agreements. They may also handle troubled loans or refer them to special assets departments and identify opportunities for additional credit, deposit, and non-credit solutions.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a financial institution, preferably in credit analysis and commercial banking.
  • Knowledge of commercial loan processing and documentation.
  • Basic knowledge of banking regulations and policies.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer operations, mainframe systems, and Google and Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret tax returns and financial statements.
  • Strong analytical thinking skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and customer relationship skills, both written and orally.
  • Ability to handle complex issues and problems under minimal supervision.
  • Self-starter with the ability to meet deadlines and multi-task under pressure.
