The University of Tennessee, Knoxville is seeking a highly motivated and skilled post-doctoral researcher to join our cutting-edge research team focused on the development of advanced robotic systems for minimally invasive surgery. This position is centered around the goal of bringing high-level automation to surgical procedures by integrating advances in robot design, model-based tissue mechanics, computer vision, and machine learning. The successful candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers and clinicians across four different institutions, working on a state-of-the-art robotic platform that is on the path to FDA clearance. In this role, the primary focus will be on incorporating state-of-the-art real-time tissue mechanics models into the perception framework for an automated robotic system. Additionally, the candidate will engage in the development and experimental evaluation of customized robotic instruments, as well as automated motion-planning and control strategies for various surgical subtasks. The position also entails supervising graduate students, preparing research reports, communicating with research sponsors, and producing high-quality scholarly work for publication in top-tier journals.
