The Department of Cell Biology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Post-doctoral Research Associate to join the Laboratory of Dr. Elias Spiliotis. This position is focused on the spatial organization of eukaryotic cell biology, particularly investigating cytoskeleton-based mechanisms involved in epithelial and neuronal morphogenesis. The lab's current research projects are centered around three key areas: neurite morphogenesis and outgrowth, cancer cell invasion (specifically invadopodia), and the spatial control of intracellular transport. The selected candidate will engage in cutting-edge research utilizing advanced techniques such as super- and high-resolution fluorescence microscopy, in vitro reconstitution, biochemistry, protein pharmacological methods, gene targeting techniques, 3D organoids, and proteomics. As a Post-doctoral Research Associate, the candidate will be expected to conduct research in consultation with the Principal Investigator (PI), employing microscopy and biochemical or molecular biology experimentation. Responsibilities will also include mentoring students, analyzing and presenting research data, publishing findings in scientific journals, and contributing to lab operations and grant applications. This role is designed to provide training and preparation for a full-time academic or research career, under the supervision of a senior scholar, allowing the appointee to publish their research results during the training period. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a robust work ethic, and a commitment to achieving high-quality results.
