The National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) is seeking a Post-Doctoral Researcher specializing in Transportation Economics to join its team at the Cambridge, MA headquarters. This position involves conducting in-depth research on various aspects of transportation economics, particularly as part of a multi-year initiative known as the Economics of Transportation in the 21st Century (ET21C). This initiative is supported by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the National Science Foundation, and is directed by prominent economists including Edward Glaeser, James Poterba, and Stephen Redding. The research topics for this position are diverse and impactful, focusing on the economic analysis of transportation infrastructure, the implications of emerging transportation technologies such as vehicle electrification, and the transportation sector's role in mitigating carbon emissions and adapting to climate change. Additionally, the researcher will explore how transportation policies and initiatives affect the labor market and macroeconomic conditions, as well as the distributional impacts of access to transportation services. In addition to research responsibilities, the Post-Doctoral Researcher will contribute to the development of a comprehensive data archive that will facilitate future research in transportation economics. The role also includes planning and organizing the annual conference for the ET21C initiative, providing an opportunity to engage with leading experts in the field.
