About the position

The Postdoctoral Research Associate position at Carnegie Mellon University's Department of Biomedical Engineering focuses on developing disease models using liver tissue engineering techniques. This role emphasizes interdisciplinary research aimed at addressing complex healthcare challenges through the integration of engineering principles and biomedical sciences. The successful candidate will contribute to impactful technologies and therapies that enhance patient care and advance biomedical innovation globally.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research experiments within the predetermined research scope and methodology of the department and university.
  • Collect and analyze data, including periodical/literature search and utilizing specialized skills in related fields to analyze the collected data.
  • Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations.
  • May also assist in grant writing.
  • Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Doctorate Degree required.
  • Ability to culture cells.
  • Ability to fabricate human organoids containing multiple cell types.
  • Experience with organoid characterization techniques (cell viability, metabolic assays, RNA-seq, lipidomics, and confocal imaging).
  • Background in hepatic biology and interest in improving outcomes for liver transplantation is preferred.
