About the position

The University of Arizona is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate I to join the experimental high energy physics group, specifically within the ATLAS experimental group at the LHC at CERN. This role focuses on studying Higgs boson pair production, developing algorithms for tagging boosted Higgs boson decays, and applying machine learning techniques to particle physics data analysis. The position also involves supervising graduate and undergraduate researchers and may be renewable based on performance and funding availability.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the ATLAS Run 3 physics program studying Higgs boson pair production.
  • Develop and calibrate algorithms for tagging boosted Higgs boson decays.
  • Explore novel applications of machine learning to particle physics data analysis and detector hardware.
  • Contribute to ongoing Phase II upgrade activities at Arizona.
  • Supervise graduate and undergraduate student researchers.

Requirements

  • PhD upon hire.
  • Strong record in physics data analysis.
  • Experience in calibration/combined performance.
  • Familiarity with applications of machine learning techniques.
