About the position

The Postdoctoral Research Associate position in Professor Wanunu's laboratory at Northeastern University focuses on the development of single-molecule methods powered by nanotechnology to tackle various challenges in biophysics and biomedical engineering. The lab is engaged in pioneering research aimed at enhancing the detection of proteins through engineered nanopores, which is a cutting-edge area of study in the field of proteomics. The successful candidate will be involved in both basic and applied research, contributing to the advancement of methodologies for quantifying biomolecules and sequencing DNA, RNA, and proteins. In this role, the Postdoctoral Research Associate will be responsible for performing research of a limited scope, primarily utilizing existing theories and methods. The position requires collaboration with the supervisor in interpreting and publishing research results, as well as assisting in grant writing. The associate will also maintain the laboratory environment and may provide functional supervision over supporting research staff. A key responsibility will be to ensure the completeness and integrity of the research conducted within the lab, which is essential for the advancement of the lab's objectives and the broader scientific community.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research focused on protein detection using engineered nanopores.
  • Assist in the interpretation and publication of research results and grant proposals.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and environment.
  • Provide functional supervision over supporting research staff as needed.
  • Ensure the completeness and integrity of research projects.

Requirements

  • PhD in Physics, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
  • Experience with pore fabrication and computer control of hardware.
  • Experience in molecular biology, particularly in gene design, expression, and protein purification.
  • Familiarity with single-channel measurements and data analysis, preferably using Python programming.
  • Basic scientific part design and manufacturing skills.
  • Strong presentation and training/mentorship skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in advanced data analysis techniques.
  • Familiarity with nanotechnology applications in biophysics.
  • Previous experience in a research lab environment.
