About the position

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be an integral part of the Postdoctoral Leadership of Underrepresented Minorities for Teacher-Scholar Occupations (PLUTO) program at Cal Poly Pomona. This program is specifically designed to support postdoctoral associates in developing leadership roles in both teaching and research, particularly in the context of working with underrepresented groups. The successful candidate will work closely under the mentorship of esteemed Principal Investigators, including Dr. Winny Dong, Dr. Navid Nakhjiri, Dr. Subodh Bhandari, and Dr. Chantal Stieber, gaining invaluable experience in a collaborative academic environment. The role encompasses a diverse range of responsibilities, with a balanced focus on research, teaching, and mentoring undergraduate students. Candidates will have the opportunity to engage in research activities at the Astronautics Lab and the Unmanned Aerial Systems Lab, contributing to innovative projects while also serving as mentors to 1-2 STARS undergraduates. This mentorship will provide the candidate with essential skills in leading and managing undergraduate research initiatives. Additionally, the Postdoctoral Research Associate will be responsible for teaching one course per year, with significant guidance from the lead Co-PI, allowing for a tailored course selection based on the candidate's interests. The initial appointment for this position is for one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year contingent upon satisfactory performance and the availability of funding. This role is ideal for candidates who are passionate about research and education, particularly in fostering the academic growth of Hispanic and low-income students, and who are interested in pursuing a faculty position at a primarily undergraduate institution.
