About the position

The Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Toney Lab at Texas A&M University Health Science Center is responsible for conducting lab experiments, analyzing data, and communicating findings through publications and presentations. This role involves seeking extramural support for training fellowships and assisting the Principal Investigator (PI) in generating preliminary data for research grant applications. The position focuses on neuroscience research, particularly in areas related to opioid-induced respiratory depression, synaptic plasticity, and dysfunctional fear memory in anxiety and PTSD.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design of research experiments.
  • Conduct and report on research as described in the PI's grant proposals.
  • Maintain conformity with ethical standards in research.
  • Engage in open and timely research discussions with the PI/mentor.
  • Prepare and publish peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals.
  • Prepare and submit applications for fellowship support.
  • Maintain compliance with good laboratory practices and comprehensive research records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree (Ph.D., MD, DVM) in a relevant field.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Understanding of brain function and neural circuits.

Nice-to-haves

  • Doctoral degree in neuroscience and/or physiology.
  • Prior experience with whole-cell patch clamp recording.
  • Basic understanding of optogenetics and chemogenetics.
  • Basic laboratory and molecular biology skills.
  • Knowledge of immunohistochemistry and biochemistry practices.
  • Experience performing rodent stereotaxic surgeries.
  • Ability to conduct behavioral studies and data analysis.
