About the position

The Postdoctoral Research Associate at Texas A&M University will conduct research in sleep and circadian biology using the Drosophila model. This role involves interdisciplinary approaches, including behavior, genetics, genomics, and computational methods, aimed at advancing understanding in the field. The position requires a strong interest in developing research skills and contributing to various research projects within the Department of Biology.

Responsibilities

  • Develop assigned research projects, including establishing and improving protocols and analysis.
  • Execute research experiments, including setup, data collection, and analyzing results.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks, write manuscripts, present findings, and contribute to grant proposals.
  • Train new personnel on lab procedures and bioinformatics pipelines.
  • Conduct general laboratory duties such as purchasing supplies, research equipment maintenance, and maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in a relevant field.
  • Familiarity with routine laboratory procedures and equipment.
  • Familiarity with routine laboratory safety regulations.
  • Skills in computation genomics, including NGS data analysis and pipeline maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge in Drosophila neurogenetics.
  • Strong knowledge in statistical methods.
  • Ability to lift medium weight equipment and conduct experiments that require dexterity.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.D. in addition to Ph.D.
  • Prior experience in multidisciplinary research.
  • Research background in biology, computational genomics, and animal sciences.
