About the position

The Postdoctoral Scholar position in Biomedical Engineering at Michigan Technological University involves conducting research in computational biomedical engineering. The role is designed for a 12-month appointment with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding. The successful candidate will collaborate with a diverse team, including faculty and clinical collaborators, to explore topics such as biomedical imaging analysis, computer modeling of physiological systems, and software development for biomedical applications.

Responsibilities

  • Review and synthesize relevant literature
  • Conduct image analysis, numerical modeling and/or data analysis
  • Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals
  • Disseminate research at national and international conferences
  • Assist in preparing data to secure extramural funding
  • Work with other members of the research team, including undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and research collaborators (inside and outside Michigan Tech)
  • Implement best safety practices and continuous improvement

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in engineering, Applied Math, Physics, Computer/Data/Computational Sciences, or a closely related field
  • Experience with computerized data analytics
  • Experience with medical imaging and processing
  • Experience and skills in computer coding (e.g., Matlab, Python, C++, etc.)
  • A record of publication(s) in mainstream peer-reviewed journals
  • Knowledge of biomedical research

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in computational geometric analysis
  • Experience and knowledge in optimization and computer vision
  • Experience in one of the mainstream software packages in computational sciences (e.g., OpenCV, FENiCS, VTK, ITK, 3D Slicer, etc.)
  • Knowledge and experience in computer model development and coding (e.g., Python or C++)
  • Foundational skills in Medical Image Analysis and the utility of computer vision in biomedical applications
  • Knowledge of Machine learning and its applications in medical imaging
  • Excellent communication skills and abilities to work with multi-disciplinary collaborators
  • Ability to mentor students with diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated success in, or potential future contributions to, working with persons from diverse backgrounds, creating a sense of belonging, and fostering a fair, objective, welcoming place to work for persons with a wide variety of personal characteristics and viewpoints
