About the position

As a Hardware Developer at IBM, you'll get to work on the systems that are driving the quantum revolution and the AI era. The India System design team is responsible to own and deliver System design milestones for IBM POWER, Storage and mainframe platforms. The team collaborates with Global System design & development teams and stakeholders. As a Power conversion development / Power Integrity Engineer, the candidate has to work with stakeholders and others in a multidisciplinary team to define requirements and develop the power subsystem solution for next generation enterprise server systems. Must have strong fundamentals in core Power electronics disciplines, control theory, analog, digital, magnetics, and optimized pc board layout, with a high level of analysis and design skills. This position involves end to end ownership of the Server Power Subsystem.

Responsibilities

  • Define requirements and develop the power subsystem solution for next generation enterprise server systems.
  • Accuracy of the circuit design and functional implementation of AC/DC Power Supplies and DC/DC Voltage Regulator's both pluggable and embedded, ensuring they are released per the planned development schedule.
  • Describe both the DC, current density, and high frequency characteristics. Understanding how each link in the power delivery chain contributes the desired frequency response is paramount.
  • Develop verification plans and execution of those plans to ensure functionality to specifications and the overall quality. Experience with SPICE and averaged model simulation tools such as SIMPLIS is preferred.
  • Perform electrical analysis on card and substrate packages, including DC and frequency/time domain analysis across single card and system level card network, and Verify DC and transient excitations meet system components' tolerance requirements.
  • As a core member of the Power team, expected to work autonomously and deliver on project phases on time and on budget.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical & Electronics or equivalent program
  • Around 7-10 years engineering experience
  • Understanding of Development process from Concept to Qualification
  • To identify issues, develop and execute action plans, and react quickly to changing requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in High efficiency/High Reliability DC-DC and AC-DC Power Conversion
  • Lab support experience using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, frequency counters, etc. and understanding test/validation results is critical. Logic debug skills are also required for this position.
  • Experience using PCB design/editor tool (ex: Cadence Allegro).
  • Experience with I2C, PMBus, AVSBus, SPI protocols and power management devices.
  • Experience with PowerSI, OptimizePI, and Synopsys Hspice and/or Simplis spice network tools.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis and statistical tools also a plus (ex: JMP).
  • Basic Software Engineering experience (writing and/or modifying Perl, Bash or Shell scripts)
  • Demonstrated communication skills in a cross functional Development team environment.
  • Should demonstrate interpersonal communication, creative problem solving, and team building skills.
