About the position

The Power Electronics/Motor Control Engineer at Florida Turbine Technologies (FTT) is responsible for the development, design, integration, and testing of aerospace motor drive/control systems, power electronics design, and distribution systems. This role involves applying knowledge of power electronics hardware design to sensorless motor control systems and developing new electro-mechanical systems and prototypes. The engineer will work collaboratively within a dynamic team to resolve complex engineering challenges and deliver functional hardware that meets customer requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, design, integrate, and test aerospace motor drive/control systems.
  • Apply knowledge of power electronics hardware design to sensorless motor control systems.
  • Design and assist in the development of new electro-mechanical systems and prototypes.
  • Interpret requirements, create electrical schematics, and perform electrical simulations.
  • Support the design and development of power control & distribution systems, energy storage, and electro-mechanical machinery.
  • Resolve complex issues using professional concepts and company objectives.
  • Work on complex issues requiring in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
  • Select methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
  • Network with key contacts outside own area of expertise.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited school.
  • 5+ years' experience in power electronics design and development in gas turbomachinery or related industry.
  • 5+ years' experience in sensorless motor control theory and practical applications.
  • Demonstrated experience with power electronics design and development.
  • Demonstrated experience with sensorless motor control design and development.
  • Proficiency in integrating electrical systems, motors, generators, etc.
  • Experience with Altium or equivalent printed circuit board (PCB) design.
  • Experience with Powersim (PSIM) or equivalent system dynamics modeling and simulation tool.
  • Experience with ORCAD Capture, Pspice, and Matlab/Simulink.
  • Ability to work hands-on in a testing environment to develop power electronics and motor control systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Engine/Component test support is highly preferred.
  • Ability to engage industry experts and integrate knowledge from other engineering areas.
  • Ability to capture requirements from customers and stakeholders and track integrated product team progress.
  • Ability to collaborate with program managers, customers, and team members.
