About the position

The Power Plant Process Engineer at Alcoa is responsible for enhancing the reliability and efficiency of plant operations through the analysis of equipment performance and the implementation of maintenance strategies. This role involves collaborating with multi-disciplined teams to address operational challenges, improve processes, and ensure the health of system assets while supporting sustainability initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Establish repair criteria for maintenance and operational concerns.
  • Develop and execute forced and planned outage work.
  • Analyze OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) data and recommend improvements.
  • Investigate reliability problems and propose cost-effective solutions.
  • Facilitate and support teams in developing reliability improvements.
  • Ensure system asset health by investigating equipment failures and implementing repair strategies.
  • Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis for equipment failures and process interruptions.
  • Support Reliability Excellence (REX) core processes in production and maintenance departments.
  • Monitor and improve processes to eliminate environmental and safety hazards.
  • Perform capital project development including corrective options, costs, and timelines.
  • Prepare project reports and system functional descriptions for new or modified equipment.
  • Act as a translator/trainer between business and shop floor operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering field or related field.
  • Familiarity with mechanical and electrical systems and ability to develop expertise in industrial-scale systems.
  • Working knowledge of maintenance practices and reliability principles.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3 years of progressively increasing responsibility and experience in engineering or maintenance.
  • Experience in facilitating resolution of issues between production and maintenance groups.
  • Training and experience with performing Root Cause Analyses.
  • Knowledge of steam or gas turbine generation equipment and related systems.
  • Experience with potable water system operation, service, and maintenance.
