About the position

Kimley-Horn's Atlanta, GA office is seeking a Power Studies Engineer with over 4 years of experience to join their Electrical team. This role focuses on serving clients in the power delivery and renewable energy sectors, acting as a technical expert in the design, analysis, and optimization of electrical power systems. The position is in-office and involves collaboration with the electrical team on various projects.

Responsibilities

  • Support the power electrical team to analyze systems, create software models, and write reports for various projects such as commercial, industrial, and generation projects.
  • Assist with project design, specifications, and plans support.
  • Review work with quality in mind to confirm compliance with Kimley-Horn quality standards.
  • Perform studies including Arc Flash, Short Circuit, and Coordination studies using ETAP or SKM.
  • Conduct Load Flow / Reactive Power Analysis and Thermal Ampacity studies using software like AmpCalc or CYMCAP.
  • Execute Grounding studies using WinIGS, CDEGS, or SKM Ground Mat.
  • Carry out Transient studies using PSS/E, PSCAD, EMTP, or PSLF.
  • Perform Harmonic studies using ETAP or transient software.
  • Develop relay settings using SEL AcSELerator.
  • Partner with the electrical team to create calculations and drawings for various project types.
  • Continually gain knowledge in the industry.

Requirements

  • 4+ years' experience as an Electrical Engineer for an engineering firm or EPC.
  • 1+ years' project management experience.
  • EIT certification or a path to move towards certification is preferred.
  • Experience with CYMCAP, SKM, ETAP, EMTP-RV, PSS/E, PSCAD, WinIGS, or CDEGS is preferred.
  • Understanding or willingness to learn the NEC 2020 and IEEE standards and keep up with emerging technologies.
  • General understanding of engineering and energy systems, including Load Flow, Coordination, Short Circuit, and Arc Flash studies basic theory and methodology.
  • Proficiency using Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (AutoCAD).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work and manage several project teams concurrently.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment effectively.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
