About the position

The Pre-Construction Designer is responsible for ensuring that projects start off correctly by leveraging their expertise in construction codes and high-level drawing skills. This role involves reviewing and creating project drawings and models for new construction, alterations, or renovations, focusing on designing spectator seating components that are functional, safe, code compliant, sustainable, and aesthetically pleasing.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and communicate design and preconstruction solutions to aid sales agents, estimators, project designers, and project managers.
  • Prepare proposals level drawings including seating, foundation, and framing plans, along with sections and elevations for sales agents during the pursuit phase.
  • Craft proposal drawings in compliance with building codes: NFPA, IBC, ICC, ANSI, ADA, ASTM, and OSHA.
  • Design mass gathering structures for constructability using standardized parts to reduce design/manufactured part variation.
  • Read through project plans, specifications, and other customer documents for scope understanding.
  • Evaluate and analyze technical drawings provided by professional services.
  • Apply building code knowledge to advanced level drawing sets and designs and assist with field problem resolutions.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement (value engineering) and make constructive suggestions for change.
  • Develop comprehensive knowledge of Dant Clayton products and their applicability to project requirements.
  • Attend and participate in project specific meetings to determine the most efficient project design while following scope of work.
  • Support other departmental requirements as part of the project team as workflow demands change.
  • Work with external architects, engineers, and construction professionals to ensure all drawing standards are up to date and utilized in proposal level drawings.
  • Review all custom stadia released orders for code compliance.
  • Render interpretation of the Construction Codes and adopt policies and procedures to clarify the application of its provisions.
  • Develop and nurture resources influential in the building code community.
  • Communicate intelligently and confidently with Local Authorities when issues become disputed.
  • Serve as a code expert resource and educator for sales, project managers, and detailing/engineering staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture or engineering, preferably in an Architectural CADD program.
  • Certified in Computer Aided Drafting and Design.
  • Experience with REVIT is highly preferred.
  • High level of experience with codes: NFPA, IBC, ICC, ANSI, ADA, ASTM, and OSHA.
  • Familiarity with structural design and various construction types.
  • General understanding of construction practices and principles.
  • Self-starter who is focused, articulate, well organized, and detail oriented.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines with a sense of urgency.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with strong technical writing skills.
  • Proficiency with AutoCad, Revit, and familiarity with other 3D software, Bluebeam Revu, and Office Products.
