About the position

Clermont County is an Equal Opportunity Employer. The position of Pretrial Officer is a full-time permanent role within the Common Pleas Adult Probation Department located at 270 E. Main Street Batavia, OH. The working hours are Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with a salary of $22.51 per hour, totaling $46,820.80 annually. Applicants must meet the minimum requirements and may undergo pre-placement investigations and/or periodic exams, including drug/alcohol screening.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, monitors, and drug tests defendants under supervision due to conditions of bond.
  • Sets bond review hearings.
  • Maintains detailed activity/case notes.
  • Investigates and prepares bond violation reports for bond review hearings.
  • Prepares other investigative reports.
  • Testifies as needed at bond review hearings.
  • Drug tests defendants in pretrial phase as requested by the Courts.
  • Drug tests other probationers as needed and as requested by the supervising officer.
  • Retrieves files and disseminates paperwork from Court dockets.
  • Completes PSI/ILC intake work on newly referred cases.
  • Retrieves files from the Prosecutor's Office and copies necessary information.
  • Calibrates the Alco-Sensor and other drug and alcohol testing devices.
  • Acts as a liaison between courier services, the laboratory, and the Adult Probation Department regarding urine specimen delivery.
  • Takes the lead in bi-monthly inventories of drug tests and supplies.
  • Utilizes defensive tactics as needed for officer safety.
  • Performs other related duties as required by the Director.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of the philosophies, theories, and practices of the correctional field.
  • Good writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain good public relations as a representative of the Court.
  • Unquestioned integrity and maturity of judgment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to establish rapport with defendants/offenders of various backgrounds.
  • Ability to exercise initiative in handling problems.
  • Devotion to public safety and welfare principles.
  • Knowledge of available community resources.
  • Certification or ability to become certified in the administration of the ORAS assessment tool.
  • Possession of a valid State of Ohio Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
  • Willingness to assist others and contribute to the department's mission.
  • Ability to conduct thorough investigations and make sound evaluations.

Nice-to-haves
